Plasma is the yellow-coloured liquid component of blood in which blood cells are suspended. Plasma contains many of the body’s proteins that help fight infection and help clotting. It distributes nutrients to tissues and transports waste products to the lungs, liver and kidneys, which expel them. The BC Transfusion Medicine Advisory Group has developed the following guidelines related to plasma transfusion.

Guidelines for Frozen Plasma Transfusion (July/August 2007)

Guidelines for Blood Component Substitution for Adult Patients (updated June 2008)
