The BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office (PBCO), has a rich transfusion-related data information registry and access to provincial clinical transfusion medicine expertise. These strengths allow PBCO to facilitate and support the implementation of a variety of transfusion–related provincial quality and safety initiatives.

PBCO Quality Management Vision:

The PBCO Quality Management vision is to develop and implement provincially coordinated, regionally managed, standards-based blood transfusion safety and quality initiatives that are affordable and sustainable across the province of British Columbia.

PBCO Quality Management Objectives:

•Provide provincial leadership, education and tool development in Transfusion Medicine clinical and laboratory quality management.

•Provide a forum for communication and sharing of provincial optimal practices through the sponsorship of provincial quality workshops and subject matter expertise.

•Promote provincial safe transfusion practice through the development of provincially standardized, optimal practice guidelines and training/assessment tools for BC Transfusion Medicine clinical and laboratory services.
