The Blood Product Request Portal (BPRP) is a web-based application designed by the BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office (PBCO) to support health authorities across the province in managing IVIg and SCIg requests, screening and utilization.

The PBCO leads the provincial Immune globulin (Ig) Utilization Management Program. All requests for Ig use are screened by Transfusion Medicine Services to ensure Ig is used in accordance with the BC IVIg Utilization Management Program Recommendations. The BPRP is also used by the Provincial Rheumatology and Neuromuscular Neurology Panels to facilitate screening of select conditions. In addition to managing IVIg, the BPRP also supports SCIg requests and approvals.

The BPRP is a standalone application that was launched on September 15, 2020. The BPRP replaces the IVIG Central Transfusion Registry Request Module (Request Module) which has been in operation since 2010. The Request Module was one of several modules of the Central Transfusion Registry (CTR). The CTR was the first population-based transfusion registry in Canada and remains one of the largest such registries in North America.

At implementation, all existing Request Module data and patient information has been migrated into the BPRP. This legacy data provides important historical information, which will be supplemented by additional data elements included in the BPRP in the future.

The BPRP is intended to be an intuitive application requiring minimal training for access and use. The user guide, in addition to the documents available on the User Support page, should address most questions.
